New Music: 90210 Toriono - “Michael Ealy”

 

Since the 2020 premiere of his debut album, College Kid Convo, Jacksonville native 90210 Toriono has been making his mark on the college and radio circuit in Florida. Two of his singles, “Back to School” featuring Duval veteran Swordz, and “Michael Ealy” won the XXL contest on Power 106.1 labeling Toriono Grand Champion at the station. “Michael Ealy”, produced by TJ da Beatman, became his breakout record and a fan-favorite across all streaming platforms. While his initial album release is still gaining momentum, 90210 Toriono is keeping the buzz going with preparations for his second project aptly titled The Sophomore due out later this year.

Izzy Strange - Izzy Duz It @ishestrange

Pennsylvanian emcee Izzy Strange lets lose his first official project of 2018, the 11 track "Izzy Duz It" mixtape.

Thus far, we'd seen two singles birthed prior to the mixtape. The first single, titled "Just Me", found Izzy alongside 2009 XXL Freshman Blu trading lyrics speaking on self-dependence and the need to continue pushing forward no matter what. Sara Fox also contributed to the track with a powerful burst of soul and the chorus. The second release placed Strange on a haunting Nate Fox production named "Halfway Crooks". Mick Jenkins joined Izzy to speak out against half-assing it through life. 

Production comes from a wide assortment of producers that Izzy came across via YouTube but he does however give us a song each from his go-to beatsmiths, Nate and Casa Nada. Also guest starring on the mixtape are Nacho Picasso and Tedy Andres, who appear on the latter half of the presentation. 

"Izzy Duz It" provides a close look at the multifaceted talent of the artist as he goes from storytelling tales to spitting bars and even playing the singer role on "Something I Said" with supporting vocals from Sara. Along with that angle, Izzy's potent poetical penmanship shines brightly on the mixtape. Top highlights of this statement can be found on tracks like "Even A Broken Clock", "The World Can Wait" and "Robert Johnson".

Since his first single from his sophomore album, "A Good Day 2 B The Bad Guy", Strange has made it a point to provide conceptually fueled content that's plays easy on the ear. Though a Hip Hop artist, the east coaster pulls in heavy influence from genres such as blues and jazz. If you were looking for some type of label to attach to "Izzy Duz It" you could call it "thinking man's music". He's not afraid to expose his faults and it's thru that type of fearlessness that makes the mixtape such an incredible project to digest time and time again.

Taiyamo Denku Ft Benny The Butcher - Still Waiting @TaiyamoDenku @BennyBsf @dcypha

The Milwaukee marauder, Taiyamo Denku, continues powering forward campaigning his recently released LP, "No Industry Standard". Side by side with fellow producer cohort Dcypha, the pair continue delivering nothing but high quality Hip Hop. Enter the third single from said album, "Still Waiting", featuring highly compelling jewels shared by Griselda Records own, Benny The Butcher. 

The song begins with a sick piano melody that gets split by soulful horn and vocal samples. Denku sets up the record's concept with a short introduction that rides into the chorus that states, "no matter how things get, they still waiting for change / stages of life, sleep half of the days". After the intital hook, Taiyamo and Benny begin assaulting the mic with brolic bars of knowledge, hoping to wake up the unknowing. "Still Waiting" is a stand out cut from "No Industry Standard" and is the second feature from the Griselda camp. The album's lead single, "Be Who You Are", was another super soulful clapper and featured Conway The Machine.

"No Industry Standard" has quite a few hits on it's hands. The two aforementioned singles, "Fabulous Life" with Lil Kim, it's title track and much more. Benny is still pumping his "A Friend Of Ours" project. A fan favorite of 2018, the project carries guest appearances by 38 Spesh, El Camino, Dark Lo, Skyzoo and others. Taiyamo Denku - No Industry Standard @TaiyamoDenku @dcypha

The seasoned Milwaukee beat bruiser, Taiyamo Denku, makes his triumphant return to your headphones with the full length album, "No Industry Standard". Consisting of 16 tracks in total, Denku and Dcypha once again combine their musical powers to put forth an all around quality Hip Hop extravaganza. The pair continue to go against the grain of so called industry standards, funding the project out of their own pockets and completely independent. Keeping the entire album process in house allowed the duo to orchestrate some heavy features.

Fans of the Cypha Den Music imprint know very well that you can expect some impressive guests on their releases. We can find the lyricist bashing mics alongside the likes of Conway The Machine, Saukrates, Lil Kim, Chino XL, Royal Flush, J Hood, KRS One, and Benny the Butcher.

The names alone are enough reasoning for checking the album out. Don't think for a minute that Denku is the type of artist that bases his career off of features. The Wisco wordsmith has proven his skills time and time again, whether it be inside of a cypher or performing on a vast amount of stages. He sets up all his own tours and has taken his act all across the Midwest and East Coast. As with his skills, Taiyamo has an extensive back catalog both as a solo artist and holding his own among Hip Hop's most predominant acts.

"No Industry Standard" has seen 2 singles and 1 video released so far. The lead single, "Be Who You Are", finds Conway and Taiyamo candidly speaking about faking the funk from two different points of view. "Fabulous Life" features the R&B styling of The Genius with the Midwesterner and Lil Kim speaking about what a "Fabulous Life" consists off. "Stand Back" was produced by Psycho Les of The Beatnuts, this release received a salt and peppered visual from Wes Tank. More singles will be released from the album in the coming months along with a video for "Mr. Sunshine", featuring Saukrates.

Ayoo Cheveyo - "Comeupits" | @AyooCheveyo

As Chicago bred emcee Ayoo Cheveyo begins settling in to his new location of Madison, he presents his latest album, "Comeupits". The nineteen track songlisting is a full course Hip Hop meal for the earlobes. With this release, he recounts on life back in Chicago and the ups & downs surrounding it. With a strong foundation circling around the culture, Ayoo mixes in some new school influences all throughout. To add to that, he also has the ability to harmonize hooks and vocal backings. This is one area that backpack artists seem to falter in doing.

This gives Cheveyo a small advantage over other artists and provides him with a commercial edge to his music. "Comeupits" also utilizes movie clips to further tell Ayoo's story. He looks to Shottas, Requiem For A Dream and Pulp Fiction for the added dramatics. The project also marks the second act of a four part series titled "Ayoo Cheveyo Presents". Kid Wave - "Relax" | @wavegangkidvibe

In anticipation of his upcoming EP arriving on December 20th, Madison emcee Kid Vibe leaks out an A. Wash visual alongside Red and King Tazer urging viewers to kick back, subtract the drama and "Relax". An obvious smoker anthem, Kid and company offer up reefer infused lyricism with a splash of braggadocios swag. The Midwest connection is really felt by Vibe linking with Chicago video director, Arrisa Washington. She is able to bring the chilled vibe to the big screen while using red light filters and soft animated edits.

"Relax" is a great introduction to those unfamiliar to Kid Vibe and the Wave Gang collective. Producers Vibez & Vela utilize a live-sounding drum arrangement over keys layered with horns and choral samples. Sit back, roll up, press play and just "Relax" to the melody as presented by Kid Vibe.

 

Tweeze aka Twee-ze - "Parallel Universes" @tweezedoitez

South Carolina's Tweeze aka Twee-ze follows up his previously released "Who Cares" project with the eight track EP, "Parallel Universes". The album features the breakout hit, "Carolina Schemin'", a collab effort with Soul singer, CandaceK. For those unfamiliar to Tweeze's discography, his unique vocal tone consists of a distinct southern drawl full of a variety of harmonies.

He has a very chilled, laid back sound that will appeal to smokers and Hip Hop heads alike. Check songs like "Forest Fires" and "Hermetic Dreams" for prime examples to that statement. The theme behind this particular project is a parallel universe version of Tweeze, think of Jet Li's "The One" movie for a better visual understanding. Taiyamo Denku Ft Knowshun - "CannonHands" @TaiyamoDenku @knowshun @dcypha

In a time where the art form of emceeing and battling seems to be slipping away, artists such as Taiyamo Denku & Knowshun emerge from the ashes, torch in hand, to carry on the tradition of true Hip Hop. Treating the microphone as if it were a firearm, the pair hop onto a sinister Dcypha production titled "CannonHands". Drawing inspiration from their prior battle circuit days; Denku, Cypha and Knowshun perform as if their very lives were on the line.

Cypha Den Music, a label started by Taiyamo Denku and Dcypha, has been on a barrage of nonstop releases in 2016. In late July they launched "Gutter Noise", a crew record featuring newly inked members, L. Majestic and Rambunxious. Then in mid-September, fans were treated to a visual portrayal of "Life Like This" featuring CDM artist Urban Legend and Mobb Deep affiliate, Big Twins.

Certified Outfit Ft King Sonny - "Down 2 Ride" @CertifiedOutfit @lilsonny4

Spokane, Washington dual effort Certified Outfit presents the official video for "Down 2 Ride", featuring chorus assistance from King Sonny. An ideal record for late night cruising, Swindle and Church exercise potent wordplay over a saucy West Coast themed instrumental, also self-produced by Church. With high expectations already set within their circle, Certified lands a one-two punch with the accompanying video presentation.

Landoe for Vivid Visual Films utilizes a dusky skyline to open the visual with that is preceded by pretty woman, old school cars and a house party environment. That on top of Outfit's performance gives viewers vivid clarity of what it actually means to be certified. With the video debut, an announcement was also made stating that the fellas are planning to drop not one but two projects. One is a mixtape by the name of "Bulletproof Love" and the other is a sequel to their previously released "The Outfit" album, so stay tuned for those. The Dirty 6 Thirty - "Shawty Duwop" @TheDirty6Thirty

The Dirty 6 Thirty mesh club sounds with clever word play on their lead off single, "Shawty Duwop". What first started off as a party fueled night for the squad later turned into an intense cypher session. That's what lead up to the starting point for the recording of this 905 Productions produced hit. The term "Shawty Duwop" carries many meanings behind it such as a slang word for acid or for whenever you're on your grind, handling business. The release shows that artists Chris Hasty and Damien Prophet can quickly churn out addictive records. It also shows their ability to work off each other's energy. Francheyez - "Night Fall" @Franch33zeWorld

New York's Francheyez has been grinding the East Coast circuit for some time now. With a list of previously released loose singles and collabs in rotation, the Bronx resident is prepping the release of his debut EP, "Face of the Francheyez", this winter. With his sights set on making an impact, he present the first official video effort from the album titled "Night Fall".

The song doubles as a tribute to his fallen brother and follows the Rotten Apple native as he battles with the notion of revenge. In celebration of it's twenty-five year history, Francheyez incorporates elements of "Boyz In The Hood" to the visual. With the assistance of videographer stunnamuhfugga, an emotional portrait is painted for listeners to soak in. Featuring solid production from Franch's most recent collaborator Omito, "Night Fall" is a great presentation of what the next generation of Bronx emcees have in store.

Cloud9Krew - "They Already Know" | @cloud9krew

After dropping the cinematic mini documentary for their EP effort "A Flight On Cloud9", the fellas of Cloud9Krew have been making strides within the PDX music scene. Having dropped the project's debut visual for "Let's Go Get It", the Krew was able to obtain an opening performance for the Portland leg of emcee Caskey's current tour. In high hopes of their achievements, the trio debut the second visual release for "They Already Know". The song speaks on the struggles of life both personally and as an upcoming artist while also speaking on dealing with loss of family. Izzy Strange Ft Open Mike Eagle "Rappers Say The Darnedest Things | @ishestrange

East Coast emcee Izzy Strange drops a brand new single featuring Chicago's own Open Mike Eagle titled "Rappers Say The Darnedest Things". The song lyrics utilize humor and speak about industry cliches based on Rapper stereotypes. Izzy and Mike also offer their own take on chasing dreams in a world gone mad. The production is handled by Netherfriends, who also produced the Eligh featured "Fall Back".

The Beasley Corner Bodega artist is busy putting the finishing touches on his forthcoming fall album, "Good Day 2 Be The Bad Guy". In doing so, he's releasing solid guest featured loose singles to appease fans such as the two aforementioned songs. His next  track will be titled "At Home" and will feature production from Nate Fox (Chance The Rapper's The Social Experiment) and vocals from BLU. Clever One - Wild Seed

Known for crushing mics with precision lyricism alongside his fellow brethren 7oddz, Chicago emcee Clever One presents his fourteen track sophomore album, "Wild Seed". The Chi-City emcee has already contributed bars to three group releases this year such as "Out For Blood Vol 3: Chapter 1 & 2" and "Old Fashioned Hip Hop". On "Wild Seed", the guest features are at a minimum and production is handled by 7oddz founder DreamTek and squad member, Save One. We hear Clever One spit much needed knowledge on tracks like "We All Know" and "Open Eyelids" while also being treated to some righteous Hip Hop tracks such as the M.O.P. sampled "The Business" and the DreamTek featured, "Villianz".
